Kent State's School of Art Gallery Announces Fall Season

Kent State University's School of Art announces its fall season of exhibitions in the School of Art Gallery located in the Art Building off of Terrace Drive. Exhibitions and opening receptions are free and open to the public. For more information visit:

Centennial Alumni Exhibition: Firsts
Aug. 31 through Oct. 1, 2010
Closing Reception: Friday, October 1, 5-8 p.m.

Celebrating our 100 years, the Centennial Alumni Exhibition: Firsts, will highlight the work of alumni from the School of Art and VCD. Our guest juror, Dan Tranberg, an Adjunct Faculty of Visual Art and Technology at the Cleveland Institute of Art and an Art Critic and Weekly Columnist for The Plain Dealer, selected the works of thirty-five alumni for the first of two exhibitions representing graduates from the 1960s, '70s, and '80s. The second exhibition, scheduled for January 2011, will feature the work of later graduates.

Al Bright

Al Bright graduated from Youngstown State University in 1964 with a BFA degree in art education. He earned his MA degree in painting from Kent State University in 1965 and is an emeritus faculty member of Youngstown State. Mr. Bright has exhibited his works throughout the country and has produced more than 50 solo exhibitions at such venues as the Butler Institute of American Art, Stanford University, Southwest Missouri State University, Florida Presbyterian College, the Canton Art Institute, the Akron Art Museum, Northeastern University, Amherst College, and Central State University. Mr. Bright's works are also held in numerous permanent and private collections throughout the country such as Canton Art Institute, New York City, Youngstown State University, Paul Jenkins, the George Duke collection, and the Jim Brown collection, Hollywood, California.

Dec. 7 through 10, 2010

Group exhibitions of B.F.A. candidates in both the Crafts and Fine Art divisions will feature works in ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry/metals, painting, drawing, sculpture, and prints.
