39th Annual “Evening with the Orchestra” Benefit EventPosted Mar. 27, 2014
Kent, Ohio – The Kent State University Orchestra Society and the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music will present the Society’s 39th Annual Evening with the Orchestra on Saturday evening, April 5, in the Kent State Student Center Ballroom.
This gala event is an annual fundraiser for scholarships for Orchestra musicians. Recently the Orchestra Society has provided over $37,000 in scholarships annually. Following a social hour at 6 p.m., and dinner at 7 p.m., the Orchestra with Music Director Charles Latshaw will perform a concert. It will feature as guest conductor David Dix, publisher of the Record Courier, who won last year’s conduct-the-orchestra auction.
This year’s conducting auction will follow, along with a collaborative piece by the Orchestra and the Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Bobby Selvaggio. The evening concludes with dancing to the Jazz Ensemble. Also featured will be the announcements of the winner of the Leopold Sipe Award and the first offering of the Helen Dix Memorial Scholarship for Strings.
The cost of the event is $65, with $35 going to the Society’s scholarship fund as a tax-deductible contribution. Optional sponsorship of a student’s dinner is an additional $30.
Reservations and tickets can be arranged through the Society’s president, Larry Andrews, at 330-673-4535 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
