Jeanne James

PT Faculty

Jeanne James is an instructor with a background in textile arts. In her eight years with Kent State University, she has taught Fashion Fundamentals, Fashion Fabrics, Workroom Techniques I & II, Flat Pattern / Draping I & II, Fashion Studio I & II, Fashion Studio III & IV, Professional Seminar, First Year Experience, and Individual Investigation.

Jeanne is the past president of the Professional Needle Guild Inc., and was also the president and owner of her own clothing business, Imaginations by Jeanne which made custom jackets and accessories for their clients. Some of the jackets were specifically designed to be worn for special national and international events, including the inauguration of President William Clinton.

Her fashion experience includes sales and merchandising for the world’s largest custom clothier, The Tom James Company. In this capacity, she coordinated photo shoots and designed their current logo and clothing labels. In the past, she was involved in sales and teaching various specialty construction classes for a local upscale fabric store. Other industry experience includes production management for Vera Wang and retail sales for a national chain of women’s clothing.

During her forty years of sewing, Jeanne has appeared in a commercial for Husqvarna Viking sewing machines and has had several of her garments shown on PBS sewing programs. Her favorite experiences have been attending Premiere Vision in Paris and studying bias draping with the late Charles Kleibacker.

Jeanne is a member of the International Golden Key Honor Society, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Peninsula Art Academy. Her artwork has appeared in several local galleries.
