Kent State U. School of Art Alumnus Honored with National Art Educator Award


KENT, Ohio — Kent State University School of Art alumnus Daniel Humphrey has been named the 2014 New Professional Art Educator of the Year by the National Art Education Association (NAEA).


“This prestigious award, determined through a peer review of nominations, recognizes excellence and achievement by new art educators,” said the NAEA in a statement. The award will be presented at the organization’s national convention, held March 29 to 31 in San Diego.


Daniel, who graduated in May 2013 with a B.A. in art education, now teaches at Indian Valley Middle School in Gnadenhutten, Ohio. He is a member of the NAEA and the Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA), for which he is the east-central region awards chair. In addition to accepting his award at the NAEA conference, Daniel will also present his paper “‘You teach at a detention center? You’re crazy!’”
