Institutional Advancement Priorities: Scholarships (Cont.)

Learn more about scholarshipsGENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Nine out of 10 students who attend Kent State need financial assistance. Private scholarship support enables us to help students who might otherwise be locked out of all that college offers.

These grants are typically awarded to students with high school GPAs of 3.25 or more, and who take part in extracurricular activities. Scholarships allow these high-achieving students to learn, explore and become leaders.

For students who excel in particular fields, especially the arts, we offer talent-based scholarships. We can help them grow, and their creativity can entertain, inspire and energize the campus and community around it.

The Founders Scholars program is for students who have proved themselves to be exceptional. Each spring, select high school students are invited to campus for an interview and competitive exam. Once selected as Founders Scholars, these students are eligible to receive financial assistance for all four years at Kent State.

Many of our student-athletes enroll in summer sessions or extra semesters to meet the requirements to play. These scholarships help them shoulder those extra costs, so they can keep learning and playing.

Experiential Learning and Study Abroad Grants
Many students want to travel abroad, volunteer, pursue field studies or research, or explore professional options before graduation. These grants enable students to challenge themselves while away from the university.

Opportunity Loan Program
When students have exhausted all other forms of aid, this program lends money directly to them so they can continue their studies.

Graduate Fellowships
Only one in five graduate students at Kent State receives a research or teaching assistantship to help fund his or her work. Fellowships help the university attract and retain top-notch graduate students.
