Kent State Video Selected a Winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards

Posted Jun. 23, 2014

The Telly Awards has named a fundraising video created for the new Center for the Visual Arts at Kent State University as a bronze winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards. The Kent State video submission was one of nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries.

Produced by Gateway Communications Group of Cleveland, in conjunction with Kent State’s Division of Institutional Advancement, Donor Services, this creative, dynamic video spotlights the School of Art, its variety of disciplines and how each will become part of a newly renovated Center for the Visual Arts. Part of the university’s “Foundations of Excellence: Building the Future” initiative, the building will gather students of many artistic disciplines in one location, facilitate collaborative efforts and provide spaces to explore ideas using 21st century technologies. The video provides compelling reasons for viewers to support the building effort and become a part of the future of the visual arts at Kent State.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.

A prestigious judging panel of more than 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, executive director of the Telly Awards. “The Gateway Communications Group’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”

Gene Finn, vice president for institutional advancement at Kent State added, “The video was specifically designed to advance our fundraising efforts for the Center for the Visual Arts. It conveys the quality and visual artistry of the programs available at the university, and builds a very strong case for philanthropic support of the School of Art and its new home. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results.”

About Kent State’s “Foundations of Excellence: Building the Future” Initiative
The construction of new buildings, facility upgrades and the establishment of dynamic, new spaces are all in progress as part of the university’s campus transformation, called “Foundations of Excellence” Building the Future.” The goal of this initiative is to create the most outstanding academic experience for students, faculty, staff, alumni and the greater community enriched by the institution.

Kent State is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth, and its physical facilities are growing to accommodate larger enrollments, as well as institutional goals. Building a better campus also helps Kent State remain competitive in the higher-education market by attracting high-quality students and experienced faculty, as well as funds for vital research.
