Dr. Alan & Rae Grossman Mandel
When Alan and Rae Grossman Mandel decided to help students, they didn’t stop at just one. Their gift helped renovate a science education classroom that has enhanced learning opportunities for hundreds of students in the College of Education, Health and Human Services.
Rae graduated in 1956 with a degree in education. She was raised in Canton and taught kindergarten in Perry Local Schools for more than two decades. The couple's gift was directed toward science education because of her love for the subject, which she incorporated into her curricula during her career.
Mrs. Mandel retired from Perry Local Schools in 1989, and sadly, passed away in August 2012. Dr. Mandel is a retired optometrist.
Dean Daniel Mahony said of the couple, “The Mandels lifetime support of the college includes the establishment of a Medallion Scholarship through their estate plans, and now, the funding of the science education classroom. We’re greatly appreciative of their generosity and commitment to education and our students.”
