DESCRIPTION: The Bachelor of Science in Technology consists of Technology, Construction Management and Technology Education Licensure. Admission to the Technology Education Licensure concentration is temporarily suspended as of spring 2012 and will resume by spring 2015 contingent on university approval procedures.

Technology provides students with a breadth of knowledge and experience and gives students the option of using electives to develop depth in a chosen area. This program, best suited for students with general career goals or who want depth of knowledge in a specific technical area such as casting or quality, is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering.

The construction management concentration is a professional-service approach that applies effective management techniques to the planning design. The concentration includes construction of a project from inception to completion, including emphasis on construction materials and methods to enable graduates to estimate costs, schedule work, oversee construction work site activities and manage projects. The presence of major construction firms and large architect/engineering firms in the region provides ample internship opportunities. The migration to green technology emphasis and increasingly sophisticated construction projects require stronger project management emphasis, making this program viable well into the future.

The technology education licensure concentration provides students the opportunity to learn the application of technical skills in concert with educational expertise through targeted courses in the College and Graduate School of Education, Health, and Human Services. Students completing the technology education concentration are prepared to take the state licensing exam for teachers (K–12). Kent State is one of 22 institutions nationwide that offers the fully accredited National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) curriculum.

The computer design, animation and game design concentration gives students the skills and academic knowledge necessary to enter the field of computer animation. Designing in virtual environments, computer-aided design, modeling and game design, and through courses in 2D, 3D and experimental animation, students learn theory and practice modern techniques and artistic applications. Drawings and illustrations are brought to life on digital video or film through the effective use of the latest software for capturing and animating hand-drawn or digitally created imagery. In addition, students experience creative possibilities as they explore artistic options and processes through experimental animation and modeling. Combining these modern theories of visual creation with digital imaging, motion capture, multimedia, computer animation and film production, graduates of this program will be prepared for jobs in modeling and technical illustration, as well as in artistic production, exhibition, broadcast and in the fast-growing field of game design.
Students in the construction management major will be able to find wonderful careers in the construction field whether it’s in an architecture company, a residential or commercial construction company or running their business.  Students in this program are in heavy demand and also have many internship opportunities during their academic career.

Through our Technology Education program, students are hired almost immediately in school systems, not only in Ohio, but throughout the country.

In regards to graduates in the Computer Design and Gaming program, we have students that have earned jobs at Disney or find employment in manufacturing companies designing products. 

Students majoring in General Technology often find positions in entry-level engineer positions working in areas such as Auto-Cad design, product design and quality assurance.  Some of our graduates have found excellent careers in companies such as Elwood Engineered Casting, Soft-lite Window Corporation, Ford and GM.
General Admission for Freshman Students: Students most likely to be admitted and succeed at the Kent Campus are those who have graduated with at least 16 units of the recommended college preparatory curriculum in high school, who have achieved a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and whose composite ACT score is 21 or better (980 combined critical reading and math SAT score). General Admission for Transfer Students: Generally, a transfer applicant who has taken 12 or more semester hours with a college cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale may be admitted. An applicant who has taken fewer than 12 semester hours will be evaluated on both collegiate and high school records. Minimum 123 total credit hours  and  39 upper-division hours for graduation. Minimum 2.00 GPA overall and 2.25 GPA in major required for graduation.
