Linda Piccirillo-Smith has been an English composition instructor in the Department of Pan African Studies since the late 1990’s. She has taught both English and French at the University and has a dual M.A. in English and French from Kent State. She began her undergraduate studies at Grove City College in Pennsylvania and completed her degree at Kent State. In addition to her teaching assignment, Linda is also coordinator of the Computer lab/Tutoring Center in Oscar Ritchie. She has received the Outstanding Teaching Award and the Diversity in Teaching Award. Her current research is in Caribbean Studies and Literature. Linda has begun a new cross-listed course in English and Pan African Studies on the Caribbean Travel Narrative . The course materials and the island research examines the impact of people of African descent on Caribbean cultures and the impact of colonialism and tourism on the lives of people in the islands. Students travel to the Caribbean over Spring Break and create their own travel narratives based on their experiences.
