Application Requirements for the Master of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design

Applications must be submitted online through the Kent State University Graduate Admissions website:
http://www.kent.edu/admissions/apply/graduate

In addition to Kent State University general requirements (minimum GPA = 3.20 for the MSAED), admission to the program is administered through the CAED Graduate Studies Committee and is based on:
  • Statement of Purpose and Outline of Proposed Course of Study
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Original Transcripts from colleges previously attended
  • Undergraduate GPA
  • GRE Scores
  • Letters of Reference
  • Portfolio of Research and Design Work

Statement of Purpose and Outline of Proposed Course of Study:

Applicants to the Master of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design (MSAED) must submit a two page Statement of Purpose and Proposal of Study. The two pages must include educational and career goals, research interests and a proposed course of study. Graduate Record Examinations:

For information on the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), please check: http://www.ets.org/gre. Scores above 151(460) verbal reasoning, 150 (620) quantitative reasoning and 4.25 analytical writing will give an applicant good chances of admission.

Letters of Recommendation:

Submit letters of recommendation completed by persons who are familiar with your educational goals and your ability to achieve them (minimum of 3 recommendations required). The format may be a letter and/or the Recommendation Form, which can be downloaded from the Graduate Studies Forms Library.

Portfolio of Research and Design Work:

The collection of samples submitted must be presented as one volume in a durable folder, binder, or box, whose overall dimensions do not exceed 8 1/2” x 11” x 1” thick, landscape or portrait (no electronic submission). Please review the information on the Kent State University Office of Global Education website regarding international graduate student admissions. For applicants who must complete language proficiency testing as part of the application, the minimum required language proficiency scores for the College of Architecture and Environmental Design are:

Deadlines

The application deadline for Fall admission is April 15 and the deadline for Spring admission is September 15.

Assistantships

Those applying for Graduate, Teaching or Research Assistantship must complete the Application for Graduate Assistantship form, which is downloadable from the Graduate Studies Forms Library. Completed assistantship applications may be submitted online along with the other application materials.
